Willowbrook Whispers: Bringing Music to the Heart of Connaught

When we first dreamed up Willowbrook Whispers, it came from a simple but powerful place. Living here in rural Roscommon, we are far removed from cities and the usual music venues people travel to for live gigs. Yet we knew there was a deep appreciation for great music in this area — and a hunger for something meaningful, intimate, and high quality. We wanted to help bridge that gap by bringing exceptional artists to Willowbrook Glamping & Hideaways, while also creating space for (mainly local) lesser-known musicians to be heard and supported in opening slots.
We were also inspired by friends of ours who run the Poppy Lane Sessions in Galway. Their commitment to listening, atmosphere, and artist-audience connection in a small room showed us what was possible when music is treated with care and respect. Willowbrook Whispers grew from those same ideas.
The concerts themselves are intentionally small, indoor, intimate. The room is cosy, the audience attentive, and the volume never overwhelms. These performances aren’t about loudness — they’re about meaning, emotion, and heart. In such a close setting, the connection between artist and listener feels real and immediate.
Over time, we’ve been incredibly honoured to welcome artists such as Liam Ó Maonlaí, Charlie McGettigan, Emma Langford, Paddy Dennehy, and Sive among others. While folk music sits at the core of Willowbrook Whispers, each artist brings their own flavour — Charlie’s touch of country, Liam’s deep roots in trad, Emma’s soulful jazz-inflected sound. Experiencing musicians of this calibre up close, in such a small room, never stops feeling special.
Willowbrook itself plays a huge role in the experience. Set in nature, away from the rush of everyday life, it invites people to slow down, stay present, and really listen. Whether you’re a local, a guest staying on site, or someone travelling specifically for the music, the evenings naturally foster a sense of community. That feeling — more than anything — is what keeps us going. We feel immense gratitude to be able to facilitate these moments and to see artists and audiences truly meet each other through song.
For those attending, accommodation and camping are available on site, allowing the night to unfold without stress. And once you’ve been to a Willowbrook Whispers concert, you’ll have the opportunity to join our WhatsApp group, giving access to early-bird, discounted tickets for future shows.
